You may be shocked to learn that you can eat pretty much everything on a Paleo Diet…
Paleo doesn’t retrict food groups… it restricts anything that is not “real food”…
You may hear that grains are not allowed on the Paleo diet, but that’s not 100% accurate… the Paleo Diet is all about eating the way our ancestors ate…
Our ancestors did consume grains… however, the grains that they consumed were way different than modern day grains…. this should make you wonder why no grains on the Paleo Diet is commonly thrown around…
Our ancestors consumed heirloom grain varieties like Einkorn… compared to modern day grains, Einkorn has 14 chromosomes as opposed to 46 chromosomes found in modern day grain varieties… that’s why our ancestors didn’t have gluten sensitivities or inflammation…
The gluten content in ancient grain varieties is much different than modern day grains… it is much easier to digest ancient grains…
In addition to being easier to digest, our ancestors knew the importance of soaking, sprouting and fermenting foods to remove anti-nutrients and make nutrients bio-available (easy for your body to uptake)…
If you look around, modern day food doesn’t use ancient grains… it uses modern day grains and it’s not properly prepared through fermentation… that’s why it’s easier for Paleo gurus to say “cut out grains from your diet”… because it’s hard to find foods made with ancient grains that are also properly prepared…
The main option you have is to source out these grains and make your own food from scratch…
When it comes to pros and cons of the Paleo Diet, inconvenience is one of the cons…. most people are too busy working that they feel like they don’t have time to prepare food the traditional way…
I’m no different, which is why I don’t have many recipes to share… I keep my diet extremely simple… the recipes I share in my Paleo Recipes for Energy & Weight Loss do represent about 80% of my diet… mostly due to lack of time…
Foods allowed on the Paleo Diet
The concept of “real food” can seem a little foreign to most people because fake food has been normalized… if you shop at a grocery store, then there is a high probability that the food you are eating is nor “real food”…
What exactly is “real food”?
Let’s take bananas as an example… bananas are technically allowed on the paleo diet… but if you look at the type of bananas that our ancestors ate, they were very different… heirloom bananas (also known as wild bananas) are seeded…
Seeded fruit means that the fruit is fertile…
Most bananas sold at the grocery store are seedless bananas…
Seedless fruit means that it is infertile…
This is why we believe that you can technically eat pretty much any and all foods, so long as they are “real food”…
Everything that you eat affects the probiotics that live in your gut… the probiotics that live in your gut determine how much energy your body produces…
The amount of energy that your body produces determines how much fat your body can burn…
If you can’t produce energy, you can’t burn fat as a source of fuel…
To be able to produce energy, your body needs to be fertile… you need to have the ability to produce hormones and balance hormones…
Eating seedless fruits, doesn’t help you produce hormones… you need fertile food to become fertile…
